See you on the mat peeps Mysan Add Comment In the yoga classes this week we have looked into, observed and explored ahimsa - the practice of not harming yourself, others, little creatures as well as big creatures, not harming the nature, the environment, the universe. Ahimsa is the practice of non harming in speech, thought and action - to turn it around - it is really the practice of self-worth, kindness, self-love and respect. It becomes super duper interesting when we start to observe our-self in every situation - can we step back and re-think how to say the next sentence to make it kinder, how to act in the next moment to make it filled with more respect? How can we press the reset button and to start to not judge our-self and others so harshly? Everything we do we have learned at some point - a habit or samskara as it is called in sanskrit, and these habits can therefor be re-programmed, re-learned. But firstly we need to acknowledge which of the habits are serving us with goodness, and pick out the ones that doesn't serve us anymore. So have a think, observe, take a breath and step back to see where your samskaras can use a little paow woaw and fresh air in order to more authentically be able to start to practice Ahimsa - non-violence. We all start off with a heap of positive energy and endless enthusiasm. As we grow older, our surrounding environments whispers a wide range of made up rules, have to’s, should and way’s to be into our ears. We slowly start to forget who we really are and our full potential. We start to forget our Atman – our true Self. The Atman, our true Self is a spark of the universe, a spark of the divine and it is the nature and substance of who we really are. Our forgotten Self’s – the pure and free us- is forgotten because we have started to believe that something is wrong with us, that we need to be repaired. And as this lie keeps growing on us, most of us start to live life as if this lie is the biggest and only truth. We have created winners and losers, the upper , middle and lower classes, the rich and the poor, the have and have not’s. An intention in yoga is to bring us back. Back to that pure true us – the Self. Remembering who we really are. A gem is not less valuable when covered in soil and dirt and as we practice yoga, the soil and dirt of the gem will slowly wash off. We will start to realise the presence of freedom, peace and contentment of us and that it is always there. As the gem starts to glimmer we start to recognise the true value of our Self’s – the Atman. Our Self is never changing, it may be lost, forgotten or corrupted, hidden, covered or minimised, but never changing. Like water the Self can take many forms as of snowflakes, or filled with salt, force to ice or contaminated with dirt, but the true nature of water is always the same So sit in stillness, practice yoga, hang out with Yourself, lock into You, and remember who you really are.
